Tomoko Takeuchi, Japan - member of the 2016 voice jury

Born in Japan, Tomoko Takeuchi was awarded bursaries, allowing her to pursue her studies in Europe. She studied voice at the Conservatory of Lausanne with Gary Magby, Pierre André Blaser, Christiane Patard, Monique Zanetti, Gérard Lesne, and theatre with Daniel Mesguich. She was awarded First Prize of her Virtuoso class, following which she entered the Atelier Lyrique of the Opéra National de Lyon, then the CNIPAL in Marseille.

It was then that her career took off, leading her to perform a number of roles throughout France and abroad, including Susanne (Noces de Figaro) in Fribourg, Despina (Cosi fan Tutte) in Tokyo, Pamina, Papgena (The Magic Flute), Melia (Apollo and Hyacinthe) and Euridice (Orfeo) in Lyon, Mlle Silberklang (Schauspieldirektor) in Lausanne, Maria (West Side Story) at the Châtelet, Belinda (Dido and Aeneas) at the Célestins in Lyon, Dolinda (Orlando) and The Fairy Queen in Marseille, as well as Zaide and Mimi.

She regularly gives concerts, with works by Mozart (Requiem, Mass in C, Exsultate Jubilate), Haydn (Nelson Mass), Pergolesi, Charpentier, Monteverdi, Villa Lobos, and gives recitals, often performing french melodies. Tomoko Takeuchi now teaches at the University Kunitachi in Tokyo.
