Biographie
Michaela Fukacová is a Czech cellist. Born in Brno into a family of musicologists, she started playing the piano at the age of five. At fourteen, she took up the cello, winning the Beethoven Cello Competition only two years later. Among her many top international prizes was the pres-tigious 1986 Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow.
Among Michaela’s teachers were Sasa Vectomov, Erling Bløndal-Bengtson, William Pleeth and Mstislav Rostropovich. Michaela has performed throughout Europe, the United States of America, Canada and Japan and has played numerous concertos with leadning orchestras and conductors. The Czech Philharmonic invited her to celebrate the orchestra's 100th Anniversary for its tour of Japan to.
Michaela Fukacová frequently performed in a duo with legendary Czech violinist Josef Suk, both in recital and concerto performances. She has recorded extensively for Supraphon (in-cluding the Elgar Concerto conducted by Libor Pesek), Kontrapunkt (including the complete works for cello by Martinu) Panton (Dvorák Concerto with Jiri Belohlavek ), Dacapo and Bridge records.
In 1994 she was awarded the Czech Grammy Classic for the Best Solo Performance of the year. Her recording of Peter Lieberson's Cello Concerto entitled “Six Realms” with the Oden-se Symphony Orchestra won the Gramophone award in 2006 and was nominated in 2007 for a Grammy in the “Best Classical Album of the Year” category.
Since 1986, Michaela has lived in Denmark, where she was awarded the Danish Music Critics Prize. She has recorded cello concertos by the Danish composers Poul Ruders and Her-mann Koppel, and recently premiered two new Danish cello concertos written for her by An-ders Koppel in 2009, and Jesper Koch in 2011.

37 violoncellistes âgé·es de 15 à 30 ans de 19 nationalités ont été sélectionné·es pour participer au 75e Concours de Genève, section Violoncelle. Compte tenu des contraintes liées à la pandémie, la première partie de l'édition 2021 est organisée en ligne. Les candidat·es sélectionné·es avaient jusqu’au 15 août pour soumettre leurs vidéos pour le Récital Online, diffusé du 13 au 19 septembre. Plus de sept heures de streaming tous les jours à suivre sur www.concoursgenve.ch, YouTube, Facebook et The Violin Channel ! Les résultats seront annoncés le dimanche 19 septembre à 13h00 (GMT+2).
