Stefan MacLeod
Biography
Voice professor at the Haute Ecole de Musique in Lausanne since 2013, Stephan MacLeod’s career started through an intense collaboration with the Musica Antiqua Köln and its Artistic Director Reinhard Goebel. Born in Geneva, he studied voice in his home city, before pursuing his studies in Cologne with Kurt Moll, then in Lausanne with Gary Magby. He made his first steps as choir member, then soloist with the Ensemble Vocal de Lausanne and the Ensemble Cantatio in Geneva. In parallel to his voice career, he pursued a training in orchestra conducting, an activity which he has developed in Switzerland and abroad, notably at the head of his ensemble, Gli Angeli. First bass of the Ensemble Huelgas during five years, he has performed under the direction of renowned conductors such as Philippe Herreweghe, Jordi Savall and Jesús López-Cobos. He also collaborates with several ancient music ensembles. Stephan MacLeod is invited by many festivals and regularly appears in Europe, the United States, Canada, South America, China and Japan. As soloist, he has made many recordings, several of which have been distinguished by the press.

NOTE ON THE PROGRAMME:
Early music does not often feature in music competitions; as we think this is wrong, we have now given it a prominent place in our festivals and concerts. In Geneva, we rarely call upon purely baroque musical energy, such as Gli Angeli. However, we enjoy this group, have been following them for a long time and are delighted to be inviting them to the 2017 Festival. Our young artists – singers, flautist and pianist – will have the opportunity to get into baroque mode for an evening dedicated to Mozart and to Bach’s son, who came the closest to the classical style. Virtuosity, love songs and baroque music: what a fine Opéra des Nations concert!
